Scope
The scope phase is a key step in validating all of the parameters and conditions that will affect the design, installation and acceptance testing of the InnerWireless system. During this phase, the InnerWireless team will meet with the key customer stakeholders (IT, facilities, telecom, clinical, bio-med, etc.) and ensure all wireless and building requirements are known, such as coverage areas, services desired by floor, aesthetic concerns, building changes, capacity, etc. The facilities or property management team will also validate that the InnerWireless infrastructure team has the latest facility drawings and revisions during this meeting. All requirements, roles/responsibilities and assumptions are reviewed in a scope meeting, where both parties sign off to ensure a common understanding.
It is desirable to have as much interaction during this phase with any Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) service providers (cellular carriers, two-way radio providers, fire/life/safety providers, etc.) and any Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) service providers (802.11 applications, WMTS, etc.) whose equipment may be connected to the Horizon™ platform.
Site Survey
The InnerWireless team will perform a detailed site survey from both a mechanical and construction viewpoint and will determine the RF characteristics of the building. The following list highlights the key activities performed during the site survey phase, depending on the chosen configuration:Telecom Room and Closets – determine space available, power available, load requirements and backhaul availability
- Risers – verify sleeve location and available space, determine if coring is required and review acceptable mounting methods
- Per Floor – evaluate if the cable paths are clear of any RF obstruction (HVAC, etc.) by extracting ceiling tiles and visually looking at each floor, as well as determine the optimal mounting method and validate wall and ceiling construction materials with provided CAD files
- Interior Walls – identify wall construction; in particular, identify where metal-lined walls, tile walls, concrete walls, brick walls, concrete/cinder block walls or other non-standard, non-drywall over metal stud construction exists
- Roof – evaluate roof to determine cable paths and space necessary for any off-air systems or GPS requirements of some wireless service provider equipment
- RF Testing – record RF scans and RF emissions to determine existing signals and levels
- Logistics – evaluate and verify storage areas, material handling, etc.
