InnerWireless Ranked Among Emerging Wireless Players to Watch by IDC

Study places InnerWireless among visionary firms with an increasingly important role in the evolution of the U.S. wireless market

Richardson, Texas – July 21, 2003 – InnerWireless Inc., an in-building wireless systems and services company, is ranked among the “10 Emerging Wireless Players to Watch" in an independent study issued by Scott Ellison, program director, Wireless & Mobile Communications, of marketing intelligence firm IDC, based in Framingham, Mass. IDC is the world's leading provider of technology intelligence, industry analysis, market data, and strategic and tactical guidance to builders, providers, and users of information technology.

In a previous report which identified the top ten wireless services issues in 2003, IDC identified in-building as the “final wireless coverage frontier”, stressing the importance and impact of better in-building coverage. The recent study highlights why InnerWireless is uniquely positioned to provide the type of seamless coverage that is fundamental to successful in-building solutions. IDC believes that better in-building coverage will drive greater wireless usage, especially among business users, thereby creating new opportunities for wireless service providers.

"Some of the most interesting and visionary emerging wireless players are smaller companies that many in the wireless industry have either barely heard of, or know the company but not how its role in wireless is evolving,” Ellison said as part of the study. “The latest wave of wireless evolution is offering these companies the opportunity to play increasingly important roles in an industry that until recently was dominated almost exclusively by the largest players."

IDC reports that InnerWireless is at the vanguard of in-building wireless coverage. The study singles out InnerWireless’ broadband wireless distribution system, InnerWireless, which simultaneously supports cellular and PCS voice and data; paging; 2-way radio for applications like building maintenance, operations and security; wireless LAN for high-speed data; as well as fire, life and safety communications that are vital to all first-responder emergency services.

“We are flattered to be recognized as a wireless company to watch by such a prominent research firm as IDC, and we believe that the study paints a clear and accurate picture of InnerWireless’ market opportunity,” said Ed Cantwell, president and CEO of InnerWireless. “The IDC study underscores the value that InnerWireless can create for wireless carriers, enterprises and real estate owners.”

According to IDC, each of the companies highlighted by the study is accomplishing one or more of the following:

  • Playing an increasing role in wireless content, multimedia, or voice market evolution;
  • Addressing issues that are generally not at the top of the industry radar screen but are nevertheless important to market growth going forward;
  • Meeting key unmet market opportunities in their targeted markets; and
  • Standing poised to play potentially larger roles in wireless going forward.
