National Institutes of Health to Install InnerWireless® System
for Uniform In-building Wireless Coverage of the New Mark O. Hatfield
Clinical Research Center
InnerWireless will enable a guaranteed wireless
signal throughout world’s largest clinical research complex
for unconditional use of BlackBerry ® devices and cellular phones
De RICHARDSON, Texas and WASHINGTON
– May 17, 2005 – InnerWireless ®, Inc., today
announced that it will install the InnerWireless unified broadband
wireless distribution platform in the National Institutes of Health’s
(NIH) new Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center (CRC) to empower
wireless interpersonal communications devices, such as government-issued
BlackBerry ® devices. In addition, the NIH plans to expand the
use of the system to empower wireless medical telemetry devices,
pagers, 802.11 wireless data and two-way radios for first responder
communications. The NIH selected InnerWireless because of its ability
to support a full range of wireless interpersonal, clinical and
building services and applications via an engineered, guaranteed
and managed environment .
InnerWireless has a market leading and proven solution that enables
guaranteed wireless coverage throughout large buildings and hospitals,
which are traditionally hostile to wireless signals because of stout
construction materials that absorb, distort or misdirect radio frequency
signals. Rather than repeatedly installing and maintaining multiple,
discrete wireless systems, the CRC can distribute all of its wireless
services with InnerWireless’ unified platform. InnerWireless
will help the CRC reduce capital and operating expenditures, while
further enhancing public and patient safety.
InnerWireless is a subcontractor on this project to prime contractor
SRA International, Inc. (NYSE: SRX) of Fairfax , Virginia . SRA
is a leading provider of information technology services and solutions
to clients in national security, civil government, and health care
and public health and has a long history of support for wireless
technologies at the NIH. SRA was awarded the contract under the
Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners 2 Innovations (CIO-SP2i)
contract.
The new Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center is connected
to the existing Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center , and the
two buildings form the NIH Clinical Center , which is the world’s
largest clinical research complex. Designed to be a highly flexible
and cutting-edge facility, the Center promotes translational research
– that is, the transformation of scientific laboratory research
into applications that benefit patient health and medical care.
“The National Institutes of Health’s Clinical Center
complex maintains the tradition of rapidly moving biomedical findings
from the laboratory into the mainstream of medical practice, and
InnerWireless is delighted to be working with this leading medical
facility, by facilitating wireless coverage throughout the Center,”
said Ed Cantwell, president, CEO and chairman of InnerWireless.
“The design of the Center reflects the parallel priorities
of patient care and clinical research, accommodating the physical
requirements of the latest medical technology while providing a
friendly atmosphere and efficient environment for patients and clinical
investigators. Our InnerWireless distribution platform will aid
in maintaining this environment, as it provides enterprise-wide
and guaranteed wireless coverage, enabling instant access to vital
data and resources through BlackBerry devices, cellular phones and
other wireless applications.”
The InnerWireless system acts like a wireless utility, supporting
a full range of wireless applications and services, including wireless
LANs, personal communications services (PCS), BlackBerry, cell phones,
PDAs, and two-way radios for property maintenance, first responders
and security. InnerWireless is used in some of the country’s
most recognizable buildings, including the 2.8 million-square-foot
Time Warner Center in Manhattan ; Children’s Memorial Hospital
of Chicago; and New York City ’s Rockefeller Center Concourse.
