Sprint Brings PCS Vision to the Rockefeller Center Concourse
InnerWireless Connects Sprint to System in Concourse
January 27, 2003 [Richardson, TX] –
InnerWireless, Inc., a leading in-building wireless systems and
services company, and Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) which operates the
largest all-digital, all-CDMA Third Generation (3G) wireless network
in the United States, announced that PCS Vision from Sprint is now
available in the Rockefeller Center Concourse via InnerWireless’
in-building system, InnerWireless.
With this in-building service capability, Sprint customers can
use their PCS Phones and PCS Vision Capable Devices in the Concourse
-- one of the busiest commuter thoroughfares in Manhattan with 65,000
daily commuters and over 40 shops -- to stay connected and share
information with business associates, family and friends. With PCS
Vision, Sprint customers will be able to make calls, send and read
email, view and schedule appointments, send pictures, and even access
the Internet to get on-line tickets to the latest Broadway shows
on select Vision-enabled PCS Phones.
“By providing Sprint coverage in the Rockefeller Center Concourse
our customers can make the most of their PCS Vision Capable Devices
in one of New York’s most popular public indoor destinations
where people work, rest and play,” said John Garcia, senior
vice president of sales and distribution for the PCS division of
Sprint. “We are delighted to work with InnerWireless to provide
the ultimate PCS Vision customer experience by expanding coverage
of the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network in a key business
and tourist destination.”
InnerWireless’ system in the Rockefeller Center Concourse
offers wireless service providers additional revenues and improved
customer satisfaction and loyalty by meeting their growing reliance
on wireless connectivity indoors. InnerWireless installed the InnerWireless
system in the Concourse and leases access to wireless providers
using licensed (PCS, Cellular, paging, 2-way) and unlicensed (802.11
b/g) frequencies.
“We are pleased that Sprint has connected to our InnerWireless
system for coverage in the Concourse,” said Ed Cantwell, president
and CEO of InnerWireless. “Sprint has a reputation for excellent
quality of service, innovative offerings like PCS VisionSM, and
leading edge applications like PCS Business ConnectionSM. Bringing
these to an indoor location like the Concourse makes a lot of sense.”
“Users of mobile handsets now expect to be able to use their
phones indoors and out – the mobile phone has become as ubiquitous
as its wired cousin,” said Iain Gillott, principal of iGillottResearch
Inc, a market strategy focused on the wireless and mobile industry.
“As a result, mobile services must be made available in-building,
no matter the size of the facility or the location. In-building
coverage is more than just a market differentiator, it’s a
competitive requirement.”
“Our product is the ideal solution for high traffic public
places like the Rockefeller Center Concourse, class A office buildings,
campuses, and corporate enterprises. The addition of Sprint to the
Concourse clearly illustrates the broadband, multi-frequency, protocol-neutral
capability of the InnerWireless system,” Cantwell added.
